Siblings Jerónimo, Jaime, Gerardo, and Rosa Fonalledas Córdova, bought 527 acres of land at Las Monjas farm in Hato Rey, where they opened a small milk manufacturing plant that today stands as the only 100% Puerto Rican milk manufacturing plant.
Furthering our commitment to provide Puerto Rican homes with fresh milk, we started a raw milk delivery service. Carriages delivered the milk containers. Horses pulled the wagons, and they knew the routes so well, that they automatically stopped in client’s homes.
Tres Monjitas becomes the first pasteurized milk in Puerto Rico when it opens a state-of-the-art pasteurization plant, and through innovation, improves product quality and salubrity by packaging in glass bottles.
Tres Monjitas starts distributing fresh milk to Puerto Rican households.
We supplied milk for the crew of the American submarine Nautilus, the first to use nuclear energy as combustible, during their stop in Puerto Rico before continuing their trip around the world.
We started small-scale production of pints and liters of Tres Monjitas beverages in a carton packaging.
Mass production of milk cartons substitute milk in glass bottles.
Tres Monjitas pioneers the development of new quality standards and regulations for milk production through the first quality control laboratory in Puerto Rico. This was the first step in achieving “Grade A” classification for fresh milk in Puerto Rico.
We start selling milk in plastic half-gallon containers.
Consolidation era starts for the milk industry, and Tres Monjitas acquires Caparra Dairy.
Puerto Rico’s fresh milk is officially classified as “Grade A,” validating that we already delivered the best quality milk to Puerto Rican homes. This certification allowed us to sell Tres Monjitas fresh milk in airports, harbors, and schools, amongst other establishments.
We developed six new products under the Tres Monjitas brand, and we start production or distribution of seven new brands to satisfy the needs of Puerto Rican consumers. These products are backed with the quality and excellence that has always characterized us.
We welcome our first 100 years with new administrative offices in Hato Rey, modern storage units and offices in Mayagüez, new cooling system, renewed fleet, and FROG System Implementation. These improvements and expansions are the foundation for 100 more years of quality and innovation.
Vaquería Tres Monjitas is one of the two producers of fresh milk established in Puerto Rico and the only one with 100% Puerto Rican capital. It is part of a group of private and distinctly Puerto Rican companies, with a tradition of quality that dates back to the 1800s. Throughout our history, we have been pioneers in the process of establishing and improving the quality standards of milk in Puerto Rico. We continuously focus on innovation to satisfy the changing needs and desires of our consumers.
Therefore, we expanded our product portfolio to include beverages, water, butter and, derivatives. We also reached distribution agreements for products relevant to our markets such as margarine and coconut milk, well-known brands such as Florida’s Natural, Welch’s, Lala, Long Island Iced Tea, Rica Juices and Los Cidrines sandwiches, among others.
